Smile The Luggage Picture Thread

Trying to keep this thread simple and the banter to a minimum...

1. Show a picture of your luggage ON THE BIKE (preferably on an SV)
2. Brand/Model of luggage pictured
3. Pros and cons of the luggage you use

Hopefully this will create a go-to thread to see what styles are out there and how well they function.

Go!

Re: The Luggage Picture Thread

Cortech Sport Tail Bag.

Pros: Pretty inexpensive, a fairly good value for what it is, holds a decent amount, and it fits the SV like it was made for it. Matching sport saddlebags are available.

Cons: Over the last two years it has begun to fade from black to purple - sitting outside in the daylight for one or two days a week. The zipper to the main compartment has been a POS since almost new, and it has only gotten worse (I can no longer come close to filling it to capacity or it won't stay securely closed). The attached bungee cords that hold it to the bike have stretched out some.

I do use it every weekend though, especially over the last few months, so it sees regular use. I would think the zipper would hold up better though. I have a friend with a Cortech tankbag, and he has the same complaint about the zippers on that as well.

Givi V46

Pros: Secure, fairly large, light kit available (brake or tail)
Cons: Expensive

I really like it, and use it frequently.

eh, I've seen worse.

I've got Nelson rigg saddle and tank. the tank is great. it's expandable. I think it's the cl and I don't know what the model is on the saddles but they're not bad. I can fit a helmet plus stuff in the tank and enough clothes to keep clean for a week. if your wondering what's on my tail. it's a timbuk2 large messenger bag. I ride the other kind of bikes often and found it to be an awesome tail bag.

Re: The Luggage Picture Thread

SW-Motech quick release mount system with Givi E360 Monokey hard bags.

Pros: My fullface helmet (Med) easily fits in these bags. Waterproof, locking, super easy to attach/detach. Not so big that they look ridiculous on the lil SV. The quick-release mounts are on/off in 30 seconds for when I wanna pose without bags or gaudy mounts . They are also locking so thieves can't just take the whole thing off.

Cons: It uses the rear fender as a mount point.. sort of. There's a plate that goes behind the license plate mount bracket to tie the rear of the bags together. The front and top mount points bear most of the weight, but this still seems like it'll lead to worn/cracked fender mount points eventually. And I cant use an eliminator

Overall though, I'm VERY happy with them.

Nelson-Rigg 8-11L magnetic tank bag.

Pros: expands to fit many essentials (extra gloves, jacket liner, water, snacks, etc), small enough to be very unobtrusive while riding. VERY strong magnets. Rain cover works well.

Cons: getting worn out and I don't know if I can find another one

Also very happy overall with this one.

Cargo Endurance 25-40L magnetic tank bag from CycleGear (on the GF's FZ6R).

Pros: HUGE! As much space as one of my Givi bags when expanded (it literally doubles in height). Lots of extra pockets on the outside. Rigid inserts to help keep its shape even when expanded. Straps allow use as a tailbag as well (or only as a tailbag in my case, see cons). Zip-off magnetic base hides backpack type straps for easy carrying. (See CycleGear for more details.)

Cons: Doesn't stay put on my tank. Magnets are weak, and none of them sit flat on the tank. Because of where they're positioned, every one of them sits right on an edge. Ugh. So I use it as a tailbag instead. My N-R tank bag works well anyway.

Overall, I'm neutral on this one. Neither like nor dislike. I'll use it, but only when I really need the extra space (multi-day rides).
