Car.

You should have seen that dude in the heavily modded Cooper S at rally time. That dude was fookin' flying.

I dunno, I seen a lot of cars and a lot of bikes running the gap over the years......... and the fastest I've seen there are motards
It depends on the car and the bike, as stated before. Cars can also ultimately accelerate faster, and have a faster top speed. More traction at the wheels for the car, plus more force keeping the front wheels on the ground means more theoretical acceleration.

A motorcycle has a nominal acceleration, in which the front end start to lift. At that point, you have reached maximum acceleration because of maximum torque about the rear axle. Because cars are heavier, there is more force keeping the front end down and more applicable force able to be used for acceleration.

A regular street car vs a regular street motorcycle, it's a no-brainer. A top performing car vs a top performing motorcycle, it's the car by miles.

Re: car vs. bike at deals gap

Maybe the question should be:

What is more FUN on the dragon...?

I think the motorcycle wins hands down on that one.

I agree here. I guess the conversation is mute now. I am not attending the STC vs. Dragon meet this weekend due to having to work on saturday. so there is no point really. The conversation started when discussing camera angle. I stated I will use my rear facing camera and lead the pack of Saturns but a champion autox guy was saying I would slow him down. I was telling him that my entry speeds are about the same as when I raced my saturn on the same road and I thin coming out of the turns would mean eventually I would pull away.

Now the real problem comes with user error, if you mess up in a car it is more forgiving, you mess up on a bike you have a lot less ways of coming out of it in one piece.

Bike every time. A good rider will rip a car apart. Nevermind the fact that $10 grand of bike out performs $150 grand of car.

Re: car vs. bike at deals gap

Wow, this is a conversation that has been going on forever and I hate to say it ... a properly set up car will beat the bike all day long. Do a little research and find and compare the times for AMA riders and the Pro Auto road racers on the same track. You will be surprised what you find.....

Maybe I’ll do it tonight if the homework doesn’t take me down.

Theoretically, a car will have dramitically more traction and cornering speed.

Take two top motorsports. Moto GP and F1. Which is faster around corners?
Where did you take physics? I don't recall contact area having anything to do with friction...

I'll agree with you on any track and most roads however Deals Gap is not the same, there are no straights longer than a hundred feet or so

thers no place a bike can get to top speed let alone a car

the only place a bike beats a car is pulling from a stop and pulling from curves, and thats what deals gap is

Surprised no one mentioned a sumo. One of those should rail around the corners.

Mechanical Engineer here. You can't have friction force without a surface area
