Quick Release Tank Pins
For a number of reasons, I decided to make my own quick release tank pins. Because I had trouble finding the exact fasteners I wanted to use at the local hardware store, I had to buy more than I needed on line. So, I have made a few extra sets.
The pins and washers are 316 stainless steel. The hairpin cotter pin is made out of 1/16” 316 SS. The lanyard for the cotter pin is nylon coated stainless steel w/ aluminum crimps. I used a spot of caulking to glue the washers to the top of the rubber grommets on the tank so they are more or less captured. I also used a little Lock Tite on the threads to secure the pins. Mine do not wiggle or move in anyway when the tank is up. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The first gen set up is a little different. The lanyard connects to the radiator mount. Also, the 1st gen takes a little wiggling to get the grommets down on the pins. It isn't a real problem, but the fit is tighter than on the 2nd gens. ![]() ![]() ![]() I also recommend screwing the QR pins or your old tank screws ALL the way in to the holes prior to final installation to ensure that any obstructions are cleaned out of the threads. This will make setting the pins to the correct height much easier. I am asking $15 a set delivered in the US and $18 a set delivered in Canada. If you are interested, PM me and I'll invoice you via PayPal. If you don't want to do the PayPal thing, I will accept checks, but I will wait to ship until the check clears so it will take longer. Please specify 1st or 2nd gen. Paypal to ocularengineer at gmail dot com

Re: Quick Release Tank Pins
are those bolts tight in the frame? or does the fact that the pin goes thru them both mean they can be loose to line up?
is there any more "wiggle" in the tank than the oem bolts? |
