Re: ZX10R Shock Swap on 2006 SV650 Naked the Complete Story (Lots of Pics)
I just finished my ZX10r swap ten minutes ago and it was much easier than expected. Shady - your guide is very very helpful, thank you! I look forward to the aTre I recently ordered
![]() Side note: Does anyone bother buying used SV shocks? my 2007 stocker with 7k miles on it will be laying around... Last edited by bigdip12; 01-05-2010 at 11:30 AM. |

Re: ZX10R Shock Swap on 2006 SV650 Naked the Complete Story (Lots of Pics)
Without reading this entire thread, does anyone know if a 04-05 ZX10 shock will fit an '07 Naked SV?
Thanks! EDIT: No, it doesn't have the perpendicular reservoir, so nevermind

So, basically it's pointless to do the swap if the front end is stock? I was planning on doing this with the bike down for the winter, but I won't be able to do the front end this year...Great write up btw, didn't know this swap was that easy!

On a side note why can't you do the front this year? The parts only cost a few hundred bucks and an afternoon so your bike won't be down for weeks mid season even if you do the front in the middle of the summer. Start buying the parts one by one now, a few bucks here and few bucks there and when you have them all wait for a rainy day and have it. |

I think what shields_00si may be referring to is all the posts people have made talking about how "scary" the stock front end feels after firming up the rear. A radical change in one end w/o balancing out the other can make the bike handle much differently. Some would argue dangerously. I say it depends on the rider, but in any case, I think doing both at the same time is the best bet. |

Re: ZX10R Shock Swap on 2006 SV650 Naked the Complete Story (Lots of Pics)
Yeah Trambo, that's what I meant. I read a few places that the front end felt a little wierd after the rear shock was in. I'm new to this **** (just got my bike in May) Don't wanna throw off my bikes balance, and I would rather just do the front and back together. I plan on the GSXR fork swap, I would rather just buy the complete setup rather than part by part.
Also, I'm doing an overhaul on paint and body this winter; so that's taking up some funds! |

Re: ZX10R Shock Swap on 2006 SV650 Naked the Complete Story (Lots of Pics)
Ayyhhh, I would say it feels "different". I ran just the rear for a whole season. Unless you have the rear shock or even the stock front setup way wrong, like one end super stiff and one end super soft, you get used to it. It is not like it is gonna buck you off or feel any worse than the full stock setup feels. I don't think riding with just the rear upgrade felt much more weird or was any more difficult to get used to than adjusting to when i finally added on the front upgrades.
But hey if you want to put it off or make excuses for not taking the plunge be my guest. The rear shock is so easy you could get one put it on and try it out, if it really scares the s**t out of you remove it and put the stock back on and wait til you get the front end parts. Either way you gotta buy the parts sometime why not just start buying them now. |
