Cerro Noroeste/Ojai Loop

For those in Central/S. CA that aren't familiar with this loop - you have GOT to make the trip. I frequent HWY 33 and HWY 150 on most weekends, and they are some of the best canyon rides in the state, but they don't even compare to Cerro Noroeste. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera to snap pics, but Google will fill in the gaps. Coming back towards the 33, there is a straight away that runs slightly downhill for about 4 miles. I was side by side another SV at an indicated 143mph. I was pinned at almost 11k rpm and then backed down because I felt like the engine was going to blow up or something! I don't know how fast we were really going (I'm stock) but it was awesome!

Re: Cerro Noroeste/Ojai Loop

You talking about highway 95?

I was just around there this weekend...but look Lockwood Valley (from Frazier Park) to the 33 to the 150 (Ojai). The 33 is a blast.

Re: Cerro Noroeste/Ojai Loop

Yeah that's the one. Keep going straight on the 95 instead of turning left on Lockwood. You take that all way to Cerro Noroeste (a slight right off 95) and run into the 166. Turn left at the 166 and then pick up the 33 (another left). This section of the 33 is where you can hit top speed! Cerro Noroeste has new tarmac and is empty and clean! I think it's better than the 33!

Re: Cerro Noroeste/Ojai Loop

I'm over hear on the coast but know right were you're talking about.

How's the road condition? How about corner debris and such? I may blast over in the next day or 2.

I just did a 300 mile run today from my house up to Carmel and back on Highway 1. The conditions were EPIC. No traffic, road was just swept clean, not a breath of wind and about 75* degrees.

I just don't get any better than that for Hwy 1!!!

Re: Cerro Noroeste/Ojai Loop

I'm looking at a loop of 166 E, Cerro Noroeste SSE, Lockwood Valley SW, 33 N, 166 W.

What was your fuel situation out there? Not sure Cuyama is pumping gas these days. I could probably make it to Frazier Park for a fill up I suppose. Wondering if there were any other options.

How's Lockwood Valley Rd for condition?

Re: Cerro Noroeste/Ojai Loop

soooo...
if i were to fill up at the Gas station in Ojai, right where 33 branches off(near the school) and then continue up 33 making a right onto Lockwood Vally Rd to Cerro Noroeste and go till it hits 166 thats roughly 98 miles and i'm guessing that due to the road type the fuel light will be on or ready to come on, so where can you get gas up there?

out map

and then i figure i'll come back down 33 to Ojai/Ventura...
back map

according to Google a nice short 5 hour ride

Looks like if you drive some 10 miles north after your "out map" (at the intersection of Cerro and the 166) you'll hit a Shell.

Re: Cerro Noroeste/Ojai Loop

I checked my Garmin Mapsource and it shows limited services where Lockwood Valley hit Frazier Mtn Rd and the same in Pine Mtn Resort but no "GAS" is listed. By the time you hit 166, you're guaranteed bet would be east on 166 to Maricopa. There is a Shell Stn there, then you'd have to backtrack up the grade again and back to 33 S.

Again, this is predicated on New Cuyama not having fuel. It seems like everytime I go through that place there is no gas. There used to be a station there, though.
