I recently bought a used 06 sv650s. It doesn't have a tool kit, or manual. I found the manual online thanks to this forum. I plan on making my own tool kit, but the door to the tool box is missing. The dealer can order it for me, a small sheet of plastic with a pin, for $30. At least its not $40 right? I know a lot of guys here modify that box for a new shock, so I am wondering if anyone has removed that door and no longer need it.

Alright, my clear CA knockoff showed up today. I went to try and see how to remove the old lamp, but it looks like I have to remove the whole tail to get to the bolts in the light. Is that right. or is there an easier way? If that is right, is it just the couple bolts under the seat near the front, or do I have to remove those little black things that always seem to break? thanks

I suppose the pluses to reupholstering is the opportunity to put in better foam and get a nice cool cover?
Thoughts? Thanks ;D

First, a little back story. I attended the Ladies only track day at Jennings over a year and a half ago. I was on the V-strom then and really improved over the day but still had a mental block in corners. The track day was a little disappointing as a track day goes. There was one classroom session, where we were told to go out and have fun and not worry about dragging a knee. No instruction, no suggestions, nothing. All of my improvement was based on things that my bf told me in the pits between sessions. So, I left that track day and the mental block continued and seemed to get worse (at least to me). I made the decision to sell the V-strom and try an SV (thanks to Liren letting me ride hers). I sold the V-strom and bought an SV last October. I signed up for a track day with Elite earlier this year, which unfortunately got canceled. I decided that I would wait until next year and sign up for an early track day. Then, I can't remember if I saw it or my bf saw it, but one of us saw the thread for the $99 Tally track day with STT on another forum. Gave it some thought and decided to give it a shot.

I got signed up for the Tally track day and started making the plans. We set everything in motion and started getting the bike ready and my mind ready. The week before the track day, we got the bike taped up, disconnected wires, etc. Saturday morning arrives, we get up (early mind you), we load up the truck and head for AL. We get to the track and my nerves are a bit edgy. I see a ton of people I don't know looking like they belong on the track and then there's me, I felt completely out of place but I was determined. I went to sign up and then we found a place to pit. My bf and I got the bike unloaded and he stayed at the pit while I went to tech inspection. I have to say, so far, I was feeling really good about the STT folks I met. They were pleasant to deal with, polite and very helpful. After tech, my bf and I hung out in the pits for a bit then it was time for the riders' meeting and then class time. The riders meeting was pretty thorough, yet relaxed. The first class set us into our groups with our instructor and covered what our first on track session would be like. We headed out to get ready for the track. First track session started slow, so we could get the feel for the track and figure out where, if needed, we could off track in the event of an incident. With each classroom session, and each on track session, I felt the mental block shrinking, the abilities improving and the nerves decreasing. I made it to the last classroom session where we talked about body position and getting off the bike in the corners. I went out on the track and decided to give it a try. While in my mind I was hanging off the bike like a pro, I know that I was barely even moving my butt on the seat. If anything, I had a quarter of an inch off the seat. Of course, in retrospect, I was learning and that quarter of an inch was good. Now, unfortunately, there was an incident going into turn 2 involving myself and another bike which ended the day for both of us. The other bike was behind me and when we went into the corner, he came up on the inside and target fixated on me and rode into me. He didn't contact the bike but instead hit my arm with his clip on. This caused his bike to go down and me to go off track. I was able to keep the bike up and come to a stop in the grass (no front brake, back brake only tap, tap, tap as we had been instructed). The other guy unfortunately wound up totaling his bike and he believes he may have had a concussion although he never went for medical help. The instructor who was in front of me, checked on the other rider and then me. We then rode back to the pits and I had my arm checked out since it was stinging pretty bad by this point and had already started swelling. After being told it didn't appear broken, the bf loaded up the bike and we headed home. At this point, I was angry and disappointed because this person had shortened my day and ended what I thought was turning out to be a day of great improvement. I have since communicated with him and figured out that there was no reason to be angry with him. It wasn't intentional, it was an accident and the up side of it, I learned that I can be hit in a corner and it doesn't mean I will crash. Probably the best thing to help break through the mental block. I also learned that I need to work on my body position. the bf has been telling me that for a while, the instructor told me that, and I was able to see it in the pics the bf took that day.

So, in retrospect, I think my STT track day was a great investment. The people of STT are wonderful to deal with. The instructors were very knowledgeable and helpful. In the future, there will be more track days and I look forward to the knowledge that I take from them. So, lastly, thank you to all of the STT staff that helped me out at Tally and I look forward to riding with you in the future.

I need new brake pads. The guy at the parts store had no trouble finding me the correct rear set but for the front sets he said his chart showed that the first gen. SV took two different sets of pads. He said the left and right sets were two different part numbers. I was looking at EBC pads, both regular and HH. Could that be right? I thought each side required the same sets.

Does anybody have the correct part numbers for the front brake sets, and, just to make sure, the rear set?

Are HH pads worth the extra money? Is there any drawback to using them for normal street riding?

I started my 03 SV1k today to take a video of the pipe sounds and speedo. I'm considering a trade with a guy for a different bike. I quickly noticed something dripping on the ground. I thought maybe some water was running off the inside of the lower fairing. Anyhow, I started looking thru the frame openings trying to find what it was. The supply pipe to the injectors was wet and dripping gas. I actually smelled it before I saw it. I thought, oh no, don't let this baby catch on fire!! I looked thru the manual and my guess would be the o-ring on the rear cyclinder injector. That's were it was wet and seemed to be dripping from. I started it a couple more times and it seemed that when the bike was warmed up a little it didn't leak anymore. I thought I had been smelling exhaust or gas a little bit lately. Anyone ever see this??

I have two identical hjc cs-12 helments that I got with my bike. One was free when I bought it so I got just like it for my wife because there wasn't much selection. It is not a great helmet, but I don't want to spend the money to replace it. For the past 2 years I have been using them both about equally, not intentionally just grabbed the first one I saw. They only have about 3000 miles each so not much use at all. The problem is they are loose now. They fit pretty good when I got them. Riding in a straight line under 60 or so is fine, except noise but that's a different subject. Over about 60, the wind blows it around on my head more than I like. Also, when I turn to look over my shoulder it feels like it could just lift right off. My question is, can I replace some of the padding so it(they) fit tighter? I think I could get just the cheek pads for a small and that be good. Has anyone ever done this? Before you say it I know they are bad helmets cause they are the budget line, and I should just replace one and use it all the time, but that isn't in the budget right now. I am just not sure if the shell on all helmets are the same and they just put bigger pads in them to make them smaller, or the shell and all are smaller. I did buy a tinted visor and put it on the one that is going to be my primary helmet now, so I'll just resize that one and leave the other to accomidate for my wife's long hair. Thanks for any help!
