*** UPDATE ***

GO here... http://forum.svrider.com/showpost.php?p=1498054&postcount=17

__________________________________________________ ______________________________

So I prepping everyone a little early. I plan on riding on May 2nd. It'll be a nice long ride (read all day!). I don't have details nailed down, but I will the week before the ride. But I have so far:

Leave a Meet Up Spot at 9am (Latest) and this is to be determined (but will be somewhere off of I77). Head south east out of Cleveland. Most likely, head out on the the highway to south of Canton (route 800) to East Sparta around Atwood Lake and then more back roads. Have lunch in Steubenville and take a round about way back home.

Or nix that entirely and take route 800 or some similar roads down to Wheeling, have lunch there and then take route 250 back home (which is REALLY nice from Wheeling to Cadiz). Then some other semi-fun way home from Cadiz, as it's difficult to find awesome ways back.

Pace will be spirited, but not stupid. I run the towns at 5mph over, or at the speed limit if I know they are speed traps. The main roads with traffic, I'm usually 10mph over and then the good roads, I run a decent pace in which the road dictates (with a max of 70mph). I run the corners and putz on the straights for the group to catch up. I also wait at all the turns if we are seperated (which by waiting on the straights, rarely happens).

I will end up stopping at decent areas for breaks/pics/gas/etc... Expect at least 80 miles between stops.

Hope to see some of you that I haven't ridden with before...and some of those I have.

Post up the route as soon as you firm it up. I love 250 and 33 down in the Wild and Woolly. I may meet up with you mid-course.

route 250 out of wheeling is great.....it would be more fun on a bike than my tractor-trailer

Sound like a plan! Since I'm not leading heading south sounds like a good enough plan to me. As long as I can make all day available I'm in.

I might be up for this. Depends on whether or not I can get the winter gremlins sorted out before then.

Well, if 01forfun posts up or we figure out a good date, he needs some work done on his bike (chain/sprockets and valve check). So there might be an inpromptu mini maintanence date before the ride.

I know I have a few items that I need to get done on my Uly before I leave on Sat (install new forks springs, refresh the cartridge forks, install new rotor, rebuild the calipers thanks to the stock dusty pads and wash it for the second time in its life.)

Unfortunately I'm not even sure I could get to a maintenance day. My gremlins are of an electrical nature.

I would love to go but i have to work on Saturday. Schedule's already set. I get off around 2:30 but you'll be gone by then, I'm sure. If you wanna go that late, I'm all for it, but I don't expect you to.

Major bummer. Wish I would have known a little earlier :( Still working out a good time for the maintenence. We can do Fri eve or Sun. Doesn't matter to me. I'll let you know, wacky.

If you guys are going to do dinner or you think you'll be somewhere where I can meet up, I will do that. The best I can do is give you a ring when I get off work.

Okay, it's all figured out.

10am, meet at:

Speedway
2623 Cleveland Ave SW
Canton, OH 44707

(***EDIT*** Meet up spot chnaged from Shell to Speedway)

Ride will take us around Atwood lake to New Philly and down to Woodsfield. We will have some lunch at a nice little diner that a few of us have spent some time at. :nana: Some of the best food at a price that will knock your socks off. From there, 78E, to 7N (the boring part) to Wheeling, WV. After stop for gas and drinks, head up 250N, then we will cut off and head to Carrolton. From Carrolton, back to Delroy for a stop for a snack at an ice cream shack there. Then, back to route 800 and Canton. From there, everyone can head their seperate ways.

It's about 250 miles and 4.5 hours of drive time, without stops from the Speedway and then back to the Speedway.

Let's meet at the Speedway at 10am, with kickstands up at 10:30am at the latest. Leaving at 10:30 am will put us in Woodsfield around 12:30pm for lunch.

Any questions let me know. I do have my GPX track if anyone want's it (PM me).

Yes, 536 is fun, but it is dirty. Trying to stick to main roads, to minimize crappy roads this early in the season.

I looked to add more miles, but thought better of it. If it was just me, sure. This way it's a nice ride, not too many miles, and not too long. My first route I planned, was right around 500 miles. Too many for a group on one day. Plus it's only supposed to be 61F out. That would be a chilly morning ride, though I could always plug in the electrics.

Just asking. Your leading, I was just curious. I think I have heard about it but can't recall. Whatever! Hopefully it is a little warmer than that but it will be what it is. I don't have heated gear and will have 72.6miles or 1.5 hours just to get to Canton according to Google maps. I've been itching to go south so better time than never.

**Update #2 **

Well, the weather doesn't look too good for Saturday. I really, REALLY want to ride. BUT.... if the high is 60F and it rains, I'm not going. I don't usually mind riding in the rain, but if I am on a joy ride, the cold and rain isn't what I'm after. I've been following the weather and it seems every day it changes for the worse. Temps lower and the chance for rain increases.

I'll post up by Friday Evening or Saturday before 8:30am whether or not I am still planning this.

Stupid Ohio weather. >:(

Well, weather.com says 30% with ahigh around 63F. I can live with that.

As of right now, I'm riding. But, I might have to blow off some of the miles depending. The wife isn't taking our dog this weekend with her. And the longest I can leave him is just over 8 hours.

Either way, I'll be at the Speedway at 10am.

I might be up for this as well. I did 2+ hours in cold rain, down 1 cylinder (SV325's suck) last Friday, so it can't get much worse for me. I had been tentatively planning with some other friends (non-SV) about a friday-saturday overnight trip down to southern OH/WV, but it hasn't been decided. If those plans don't come through, I'll be in Canton on Sat morning.

Okay, I was just in WV for work and scouted, good things down there. But the weather forecast on TV wasn't too promising. Grrrr.....

If we don't go south, I'm still up for riding. Maybe a nice cruise around the Emerald Necklace? Something locally? Beers and Bench Racing at my place? Hookers and Blow?

I'm making my decision tomorrow night!

scottyb0119

What's everyone's thought about the ride? Still chances of rain. Right around 50%. The forecast for rain, seems RIGHT in our path of riding and most importantly...right in the path of any good riding. Grrrr.....

How about we do just cut the Woodsfield and Wheeling part out? Head down to Atwood Lake region, ride around there, and then head west towards 83 and 60? I'm going to make up a new route here.

We will STILL meet at the Speedway off of Route 800 and I77 at 10am!

Lost1888
05-01-2009, 01:18 PM
I am going to say yes I will be there. The only thing that will stop me is rain in the morning or a real bad weather report when I wake up. I really don't want to make the 70 mile ride down in the rain and ride around all day dodging rain drops. I am hoping to have a good time not make a chore out of this. I will wake up a 6am. or so watch the radar and look at the sky and make a decision then. But as for right now I will be there especially with the failure of a forecast today.

wacky_woodchuck
05-01-2009, 01:34 PM
Cool... I modified the route a bit to help dodge rain. It still has curves...lots of curves!

**UPDATE #3 **

Meeting Speedway I77 & Route 800 South of Canton at 10am. South around Atwood Lake region, over to Bolivar and then towards Coshocton. We'll have lunch in Coshocton (around 1pm) and then head back north via Route 83 towards Wooster.

This is my normal ride that I really ENJOY. It's usually car free, clean roads, good corners. And if we feel like it, we can play around on Route 60 and 83 a bit just south of Millersburg.

Total route time (from N. Rdigeville and back) is just under 5 hours. The good part of the ride is about 3 hours. We'll stop in Wooster and everyone can split from there and head back.

Hope to see some peeps at Speedway at 10am. REMEMBER - Kicks stands are up at 10:30am. Not waiting any longer... Sorry.

Here's a good route to take from Coshocton (I grew up there) to Millersburg: rt 541 west out of Coshocton; north on rt 60 to rt 62 (Killbuck). I rode 541 and the 17 miles of 60 north of rt 36 last summer and they were both in very good shape.

Yup... That's on of the better routes out there. I also like the cut through from Route 60 to Route 83. I forget the name of the road, but if you are heading north on Route 60, 60 takes a 90 degree left turn, and the road cuts to the right. That's fun. Hills, blind corners... a little bit of heaven.

Hope everyone had a nice ride. Sorry I shortened it. Weather was nice, a little chilly at the beginning, but nice.

We will do the Wheeling ride some point and time. Atleast we got out there on some decent roads. They were pretty clean, save for a few dirty spots.

I'm grateful for that my new brakes on the Buell work good. Nothing like bombing on an entrance ramp, to only see some dumb old broad stopped instead of merging. Nothing like braking and standing up the bike heeled way over.

I'm sure pics will be posted. I took my camera, but didn't break it out once.

:nana: Ah, I have a couple beers in me and just Fing around.

It was a real good ride. Couldn't ask for a better group. No complaining, just riding. It was very pleasant.

Thanks Wacky for leading us. You can run point anytime. Good pace, no mishaps and good communication.

It was nice meeting everyone. Hope you all got home in one piece.

It would be nice if we could do this type of thing again.

That's mine. Its an older Buell flyscreen. I bought it from someone who twisted/bent the brackets to fit the sv. It works good for me. It gets the wind off my chest w/ only a little bit of helmet buffeting. I'm 5'9" so if you're taller it may not work as well.
