I need sum help with suspension. Im 6'5" and about 250, what front end and rear shock would you guys suggest? Most of the other threads are for riders of smaller stature...Any help would be greatly appreciated ;D

Ive got an 02 svs with an 05 zx10 rear shock and some progressive springs with 20wt up front. I really like the setup, the difference in handling was like night and day, I had real problems with diving under hard braking. Im 6'2" 210, maybe you'd want some 1kg springs from race tech

Springs and emulators up front (I favor the Traxxion drop in rod and emulator kit). They will recommend and oil viscosity. This will get your front end sorted out.

There are lots of options for the rear, but at 250 I don't think there's a stock shock that is sprung or valved for you. You could buy a "swap" shock (like a ZX10, for example) and have it resprung and valved. The optimum is to go for an aftermarket shock. I bought an Elka double adjustable on a group buy from a board member. It came valved and sprung perfectly for me. Worth the money. There are several aftermarket shocks available.

If you're a "normal" street rider then 0.95 fork springs will be the right rate. If you're a very aggressive rider and/or do track days then go with 1.0s.

For the rear, a good aftermarket shock like Penske or Elka is the best solution. None of the GSXR/ZX/Busa/whatever shock swaps work well on a first gen, especially for heavier riders.

I'll take issue with this statement, well, at least part of it...

I put an '03 636 rear shock on my '00 and it works great.

Then again, I'm only #165 geared up. I've been told that it's too stiff for my weight, but I love the way it feels, unless I'm riding on roads that have speed bumps, like all of the interstates in Virginia...I was catching air hitting those things, even with #100 of gear stuffed into the tail and saddle bags...

Not only that, but it's a pretty dang easy swap. Almost one-for-one. A new bolt will be needed for the lower mount, the battery will need to be pushed back a bit (along with the box holding it), and the bracket that pushes against the front of the battery (it's part of the gas tank pivot bracket) will have to be cut off with a rotary tool. The reservoir on the shock will rest against the battery in its place.

If a shock off another bike, eBay. Mine cost me about $35 shipped.

For a Penske, call Zoran. www.twfracing.com He knows more about the SV than anyone else.

Elkas are also very good, you can get one from Blair, a member here. http://stores.ebay.com/SV650-Racing-Parts
