I know this subject gets beat up. But for the people with gsxr forks and upgraded rear shock. Are you changing rear ride height with the shock or dog bones? And if with the shock what is a typical length? Thanks.

Its a 05. thejimdaddy 12-30-2006, 12:52 PM a gsxr front end lowers the front, so you'd want a shorter rear shock to make up the differance, to keep the geometry similiar, i wouldn't raise the rear anyway, 2 cent wonderjosh 12-30-2006, 01:08 PM a gsxr front end lowers the front, so you'd want a shorter rear shock to make up the differance, to keep the geometry similiar, i wouldn't raise the rear anyway, 2 cent yur an eediut. :confused4: benprobst 12-30-2006, 09:21 PM in our racing experience the more weight you can get on the front the better. Things differ from bike to bike, but my sv superbike's (with a gsxr front end and a 180 rear tire) shock is set nearly identical to my ss bike's with a stock front end dropped 10 mm onto the forks (the gsxr front end is a solid inch shorter.) Thats just how it works, the superbike is a REAL race bike and therefor loves getting weighed stuffed up on the front end, while the ss bike is...., well it handles and rides like an SV, in other words not a real race bike, so it prefers to be set up alot closer to nuetral 50/50. put the front end on the thing then ride it, then do what adjustments you think necesary. AndrewF 12-30-2006, 09:34 PM Ive heard of guys lengthenin gthe gsxr forks for the sv... how is that done, can it be done at home, and does it averslyy effect the shocks performance??? sorry i cant spell. BUt im super curious... i feel more than confident in doign the gsxr front end swap, with all the wrtieeups and a bit of experience with the sv and wrenching.. but im all for stock geometry, if not a PINCH of r pinch more aggresive. im steering stbailizer on my 05 svs but i hear teh gsxr forks can create a bit of a front end wobble... or ..increase the chances of a tank slapper through its more radical rake. anyoen kow how to measure the geometry???? mstingray 12-30-2006, 09:53 PM i've never had any problems w/ headshakes on my SV. i don't run a steering damper on my 1st gen w/ a radial USD setup and a penske from zoran. TWF 12-31-2006, 01:48 AM Ive heard of guys lengthenin gthe gsxr forks for the sv... how is that done, can it be done at home, and does it averslyy effect the shocks performance??? it is done internally, catridge needs to come part. you gain about 10mm. TVC 15 12-31-2006, 11:44 AM Thanks for the info. I have a older gsxr shock that I can lengthen to a couple mm shorter than the stock shock. And I have a newer shock that seems to be a couple mm longer than stock. Just wondering what to start with? TWF 12-31-2006, 02:12 PM Thanks for the info. I have a older gsxr shock that I can lengthen to a couple mm shorter than the stock shock. how you do that? TVC 15 12-31-2006, 05:27 PM Just shim the piston down on the shaft. I just found out that I can match the lenght of the stock shock with the older gsxr shock. But the newer one is 3 mm longer than the stocker. I think I will shorten the travel of the newer one and start with that. It appears to be the better shock. TWF 12-31-2006, 05:33 PM did you learn those tricks from svrs. be carefull what you doing. wonderjosh 12-31-2006, 06:26 PM :happy1: TVC 15 12-31-2006, 09:27 PM I dont know anyone from this sight. But I have been rebuilding shocks for about 10 years. I learned from a fox factory guy. A friend of mine was sponsored by them. But alot of it I learned myself, And I know what your getting at. Working on a shock is more like working on a watch than building a fence. | |
