Hi, I just got a new/used 99sv but to start the bike and shift the clutch, the lever has to be pulled all the way to the grip. I like to use two fingers on the cluch lever and the rest of my fingers on the grip, but right now I can't cuz the lever has to be touching the grip to fully engage. I know I can adjust it but i don't have a manual yet, so I was thinking you guys could help.
Thanks a lot, vanjones

1.) Loosen the top adjuster at the clutch lever and turn it all the way in.
2.) Loosen the lower adjustment and turn that all the way in.
3.) Remove the sprocket cover.
4.) Loosen the lock nut on the clutch throwout mechanism and turn the screw adjuster in until you feel SLIGHT resistance.
5.) After you feel slight resistance, turn the screw adjuster out 1/4 turn.
6.) While holding the screw adjuster in place with a screwdriver, tighten the the lock nut. Do not allow the adjuster screw to turn with the lock nut.
7.) Turn out the lower adjustment until you have 15 -20 mm of free play at the very end of the clutch lever at the handlebar. You may want to use a ruler to measure this free play.
8.) If you cannot get your adjustment at the lower adjuster, continue adjusting by tuning out the adjuster at the clutch lever until you get 15-20 mm of free play.
9.) Once you have the correct free play, tighten all lock nuts and reinstall the sprocket cover.

use all your fingers.
his clutch wasn't adjusted correctly regardless of how many fingers he uses, you want to have the clutch completely disengages well before the lever hits the handlebar

Jack Handy- Thanks for the help, but no matter how many times I tried to adjust it I still have to mash the lever all the way down, so I think I need a new clutch cable. The bike does have 38k

Might as well try a new cable, one less thing to think about, away from home on that trip. :)
