Questions regarding steering dampners....

There has to be sometype of difference or they wouldn't make them. Just wanted to know from the racers here that have them.... Is it more difficult to steer with them in high speeds or low speeds? Also the reasons why someone would get them.

Would a steering dampner from an SV1000 fit on a 650, if so, will there need be any modifications?

Thank you for your input.

steering is not problem.you dont turn wheel when riding, very little.
it is when you hit bumps that wheel wants to shake left/right.steering damper slows down this movement.

Would you know if a steering dampner from a sv1000 will fit correctly on a 650? I have 98 gix750 forks, just to complicate the situation.

You could make it fit...but if you don't need it, don't bother.

as Dr said, you can make it fit.
you need clamp around fork and mount on steering head(for 99-02 you need bracket and for 03 up you just need to drill and tap hole on bottom of ear for fairing bracket).

Buy a Pit-Bull and bolt it on. It's much easier that trying to mod a fit on one that doesn't belong there. Plus, top mounts are alot easier to adjust on the fly. I have a Scotts and love it. Pit-Bull is cheaper and does just as good of a job.

yeah it will fit-those are the same kinda as the GSXR ones-just get the 41mm racket

and FYI- WERA and other race organ. Do require dampers on ALL bikes

I'm not a fan of the top mounts. They just get in the way every time you need to lift the tank.

first thing I do after tech is bin the damper. SV=last bike in world to need a damper, but race orgs don't care, they need a blanket policy, which I can understand.
I agree I think the Ones mounted on top get in way. A cheapy old school damper mounted in front of forks is pretty crashproof and won't get in way of tank removal.

Anyone ever tried to make a GPR 1.0 damper work with a 1st gen frame and 04 GSXR 600 forks and triple clamps? I have a GPR and want to get it mounted on the new forks.

that is what I have on my bike, except right now I have different upper triple and dont use base for damper.it bolts straight to triple.
you need base for gsxr and post for sv.than you need to grind base side facing tank to clear post.

the pit bull doesnt get in the way of lifting the tank. it rotates out of the way. thats the best thing about it. another plus of the top mount is not having to worry about the fork clamp when removing the forks or adjusting front fork height. it always seemed to get in the way.

Huh, neat bit of inovation on the Pit Bull. I still prefer using the stock GSXR mounting points. Super simple. Besides, how often do you remove the forks?

you have to drill triple,right?
how does it move away?you unscrew post from frame and just rotate whole thing up?

you do drill two holes in the upper and the body mounts permanently to it. the tank base has a ball bearing that pivots enough to raise the whole body up and away from the tank. its pretty simple.

once you drill holes how you adjust damper to be exact on center of stem?I did read it is adjustable for x,y and z.
or do holes to be drilled exact in triple?

it comes with a template that lays over the top of the steering stem to center it, then drill holes.
